Yikes! Over a month since my last update. Ugh. Well--here's what's been goin' down:

Still working on my website. I'm doing it myself, so it's taking a very long time...trying to squeeze it in between 3 survival jobs, doing the MILE HIGH LACI website, and producing/acting/scheduling/pulling my hair out for MHL. ;) Hopefully just another couple of weeks, though. It's going to be very MOI! ;)

MHL is going full speed ahead! We're about halfway through filming our first episodes. We're thinking we'll be able to release them at the end of October--after we've edited, added credit sequences, music, etc. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Here's some BIG news!!! I leave in just a couple of hours for San Jose, CA...where I'll be attending the premier of CHHEVAN DARIYA (THE SIXTH RIVER)! It's my very first premier...it's not a huge one, but since it's my first, I collaborated with Francis D. Roces of Kimono Dragons to make a new dress. It's very pretty--can't wait to share pics! Not only that, but the wonderful folks at Advanced Eye Care in Englewood, CO gave me a swanky new pair of Oliver Peoples sunglasses! The kind Jay-z wore on the cover of Rolling Stone.

I feel like a Supa-Stah...I don't wanna go back to my normal life on Monday!!!

    24th July, 2010

Wow--two months and still no website! Many, many apologies! I'm just as anxious as you are to see the new one...but it's going to be a while longer. (Maybe I should learn how to do it myself--I'd have a Survival Job AND be able to do my own, all at the same time! Ha!)

In other news, MILE HIGH LACI begins filming in another month--finally! (Can you sense I have NO patience?!) CHHEVAN DARIYA (THE SIXTH RIVER) is rumoured to be released in India this September, but I have no more information than that at the moment. And now I leave you with this thought:

“Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what? Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.” ~ Mark Victor Hansen

Where to start? I'm currently re-designing my website and can't wait to launch it! I've been super-busy working behind the scenes on my webseries, now officially titled MILE HIGH LACI. We've nailed down locations, actors, crew, and have also become a SAG production! We can't wait to start filming! The past two months I've mostly been focused on the show, but have also been able to audition quite a bit, as well as juggle my Survival Job and home construction. (Oh, the joy of it all!) I finished up filming my part (Lady Catherine Stiles) in THE HIGHWAYMAN...and on THE SIXTH RIVER front, we're hoping to hear good news pretty soon. Tomorrow I audition for my first television series--IN PLAIN SIGHT. I'm so excited! And look! I learned to talk in first person narrative! Yay, me. :)

Major changes coming for www.christacannon.com Can't wait to reveal the new look! Maybe she'll stop writing about herself in third person. George Costanza teaches her bad habits. Anyway! i <3 lac;) (I Heart Laci in text-ese) is now officially a SAG production! You'll note the name change: you can find out more through Christa's blog, Cannon Fodder. We're busy filming webisodes and scheduling photo shoots in preparation for our Launch Party in May! She is no longer attached to the film EYE OF NOOR due to time constraints, but will continue filming THE HIGHWAYMAN in April. Cheers!

    Inferno Film Press Room

Inferno Film Productions is pleased to announce the casting of Macleish Day and Marianne Page in the lead roles of its upcoming motion picture production, The Highwayman. The Highwayman screenplay is based on the classic poem by Alfred Noyes and tracks the poem very closely. Macleish will play Will Stiles, the son of a farmer who discovers that he is the grandson of a baronet who was betrayed and executed causing his family to lose all their lands and titles. Seeking revenge on those responsible for his family's downfall, Will begins a secret double life as a highwayman. Marianne will play the love of Will's life, Bess, the innkeeper's daughter. The movie will also feature Trygve Lode as Lt. Cardwell, Christa Cannon as Lady Catherine, and Tom Place as Young Henry, with stunts and effects provided by Asgard Entertainment.

"Our Highwayman is a bit of a romance, a bit of an action movie and a bit of an old fashion ghost story," said producer Darlene Cypser. "Toss Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Star Wars and a bit of the kind of ghost stories told around camp fires into a blender, set it on 18th century England and mix well!"

Christa Cannon of Aurora will play the young Catherine Stiles, Will Stiles' grandmother, in flashbacks about the arrest and execution of his grandfather, Malcolm Stiles. In the same scenes Tom Place will play her son, Young Henry, Will's future father.

Christa has an extensive background in modeling in the US and in theater in Europe. She also appeared in the Colorado feature film, Skills Like This. But Christa has an aristocratic look that fits very well with the 18th century.

The Highwayman Movie's Official MySpace Page

    We have found our Catherine!

Casting is a lot harder than you might think. It is not just a matter of finding people who can act. That's a minimum requirement. You also need someone who looks the part. I have seen some badly miscast roles in low budget films. The one that sticks in my mind is a character who was supposed to be a hardened underworld wheeler-dealer who looked like a 20-year-old whose only experience was playing video games. It just did not work.

And when you are casting for a movie set in the 18th century there are other factors. Some people just have a look that is "too modern." I can't explain what I mean by that beyond the fact that I just know that if we dress them up for the part they will look out of place and time.

I didn't have particular image in my mind of what Catherine looked like though when you are talking about an upperclass English woman in the early 1700s there is a limited range. But Catherine appears only in flashbacks at very intense emotional moments -- when her husband is being arrested, tried and hanged. Because those moments are going to be flashbacks with a voiceover, Catherine had to be able to express most of her reaction with her face. And that is hard.

And yet Christa Cannon excelled at it. We all knew at the end of the auditions that she was the one. We wanted to be fair and review the tapes. But Christa still stood out far above the rest.

Now if only it was that easy to decide on the other roles....
